RO Membrane Cleaning

Selecting an effective solution

Our Genesys Reverse osmosis chemicals are manufactured solely in UK facilities and these are special chemicals added upstream of a reverse osmosis membrane system. Genesys reverse osmosis chemicals are designed to prevent or slow-down mineral scale formation on the membrane surface. For this reason, the right antiscalant is critical for the consistent operation of a reverse osmosis system.

Mineral scale is formed when the dissolved minerals in water are allowed to concentrate to beyond their saturation limit, where they will start to come out of the solution. Similar to water spots on a window, the water sprayed on the window appears clear but there are dissolved minerals in each drop. As that water evaporates the dissolved minerals stay behind and show themselves as a hard water spot.

Successful membrane cleaning relies on both the effectiveness of the cleaning compounds, their professional application, and the design and operation of the cleaning equipment. For the best results, RO membrane cleaning should be performed with both high and low-pH cleaning chemicals.

RO membrane cleaning should be performed with high and low-pH CIP chemicals. High pH cleaning should always be performed first to penetrate and disperse biological or organic foulants.

High pH cleaning is a common procedure used to clean RO elements that have been fouled by dissolved organic material or biological growth.
